Coy A. Lothrop

Coy A. Lothrop was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, but has spent most of his life in the small towns scattered across the Piney Woods of East Texas. That deep-rooted sense of place continues to shape both his life and his art.

Lothrop holds associate degrees in both Advertising & Graphic Design and Fine Arts, was invited to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art in London, and graduated in the top 5% of his class at the University of North Texas. Over the past three decades, he’s worked across the creative industry—as a visual designer, illustrator, creative director, and longtime educator.

He earned his Master of Arts in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Tyler, with a focus on oil painting. Today, his work explores contemporary portraiture with an intimate lens, aiming to reveal shared emotional truths and spark conversations about the world we live in.

Lothrop has taught at Kilgore College for 25 years, where he currently serves as Professor of Visual Arts and oversees the Visual Arts program. Whether in the classroom or the studio, he’s passionate about connecting people through art and helping students find their voice.

Lothrop is a horror movie buff, a video game nerd, and an avid outdoorsman.
